PIÑON TIERNO is not a single breeding variety, but represents a historically established group of pomegranate varieties growing primarily in the Spanish regions of Alicante and Murcia. Various clones of this group are being studied by scientific institutes to preserve genetic diversity.

Fruits of this group usually have a medium size and a thin rind, the color of which varies from yellow-green to pink with red fragments. They are characterized by soft seeds and a sweet taste, however, the fruits are delicate, highly sensitive to mechanical damage, and difficult to transport.
