The variety was bred within the framework of a breeding program at the Velké Losiny station. The main goal of creating Rubigo was to obtain produce that combines disease resistance with large, firm, and transportable berries.
In scientific research, the variety was studied in comparative trials regarding growth intensity, bush shape, and the presence of fruit-bearing formations, and it also underwent testing for the presence of phytoplasma infections. Mineral composition analyses of the berries note the variety as one of the best in terms of nutrient content.
