Carotop is a synthetic (S) variety of winter rye. The plant is characterized by medium height and medium lodging resistance. The variety belongs to the mid-season maturity group.

Regarding diseases, the variety has medium resistance to powdery mildew, rust, and leaf blotch (Rhynchosporium). The grain of the variety is used in scientific research related to the analysis of asparagine content, evaluation of falling number, as well as the study of the structure of beta-glucans and hemicellulose.
