Clou is an F1 hybrid, the breeding of which was carried out in Germany in cooperation with scientific institutions. Within the framework of international variety testing guidelines, it is used as an example for evaluating morphological traits, such as the medium length of the coleoptile and the medium length of the sheath of the first leaf.

The variety is focused on high yield and shows the ability to maintain productivity under stressful growing conditions, particularly with moisture deficit. The variety is used in research dedicated to breeding for the needs of organic farming.
