This landrace variety is known by a multitude of synonyms, including Irmana, Immanu, Immana, Irmanu, and Jermanella. Historically, this crop played an important role in the food supply of the local population, in particular, it was used for the production of traditional black bread.
The plant is characterized by high adaptability and resistance to unfavorable soil and climatic conditions typical of the mountain slopes of Etna. Currently, the variety has been restored and included in the national registry of conservation varieties to maintain biological diversity.
