The variety has been historically grown in the Pollino region at an altitude of 750 to 1300 meters above sea level. The plant is distinguished by a tall stem, reaching two meters, and the ability to adapt to clay-rich soils.
This landrace variety shows high resistance to cold and drought. Grain yield ranges from 13–15 to 25–30 centners per hectare. The grain is characterized by small size and is used for the production of flour, bakery products, and pasta.
