The variety was created by selection from local rye ecotypes grown in the Beskydy Mountains. It belongs to the category of biennial (semi-perennial) plants with an intensive growth rate and a short vegetation period. The plants have long straw, reaching a height of up to 200 cm.
Lesan possesses excellent drought tolerance and high plasticity to soil and climatic conditions, however, it is not recommended for cultivation on heavy or waterlogged soils. Resistance to lodging is medium.
The grain of the variety is usually smaller compared to modern varieties and contains up to 16.5% nitrogenous substances. The variety is an initial population, which ensures stability in various conditions, but limits yield potential in comparison with intensive hybrids.
