The variety is a winter crop with plants reaching a height of approximately 230 cm. It is a high-yielding landrace with large grain; under proper agronomic management, each plant forms vigorous tillers with 30–50 ears, each containing between 30 and over 70 grains.
The rye possesses a deep root system, high winter hardiness, and is adapted to the short growing season of northern regions. Due to cross-pollination, the variety requires spatial isolation from other rye types to maintain purity and also requires a very sparse sowing pattern.
