The Ladino di Panocchia variety originated in the Parma region through selection based on the Riccio di Nizza and Costoluto Genovese varieties. The plant has a vigorous indeterminate growth habit, medium-length internodes, and large, bullate leaves.
The fruits of this variety are characterized by strong flattening and pronounced ribbing. Their average weight is about 250 g with a width of 10 cm and a length of 5 cm. The flesh is soft, the fruit contains from four to six locules, and the skin turns red upon ripening.
The variety is classified as early-maturing. It is currently not used in commercial production, having been preserved as an heirloom variety and a genetic resource.
