The variety is a tall-growing plant with a development period of about 90 days. The fruits have the oval or elongated shape characteristic of the San Marzano type and are red in color, often with yellow-green shoulders. The plant is demanding in terms of fertilizer application and exhibits high yields and an increased concentration of soluble solids in the fruits.

The tomato belongs to a group of Italian-bred varieties and is traditionally used as a "paste tomato" due to the meaty structure of the fruits with a low water content. The elongated fruits may be susceptible to blossom end rot. In official catalogs, the variety is often equated with the S. Marzano gigante variety.
