The variety Sharp is a specialized breeding form of Solanum sisymbriifolium and is used for the control of Meloidogyne chitwoodi. Scientific data confirm the resistance of this variety to this species of nematode.
The plant of this species is a perennial herbaceous shrub 1 to 2 meters in height. It is highly branched, covered in sticky hairs and dense, sharp yellow or orange spines, and the fruits are bright red berries.
The plant contains steroidal glycoalkaloids, in particular solasodine, and possesses potential invasiveness. The presence of sharp spines can cause mechanical injury upon contact.
