The Arena variety belongs to the species Solanum tuberosum and is the result of breeding work by the German company Saatzucht Firlbeck GmbH + Co. KG. The Granola and Gusto varieties were used as parental forms in its development.

The variety is intended for table use. Its resistance to certain types of mosaic is recorded in European Union documentation. Arena is also known as a genetic component used in the creation of other potato varieties, in particular the Exempla variety.
