The variety was obtained at the Scottish Crop Research Institute (SCRI) using the parent form of the Brodick variety. The main goal of the breeding was to create a potato with high technological qualities for the processing industry.

The plant possesses increased resistance to certain diseases, however, it does not have complete resistance to the potato cyst nematode species Globodera pallida. The variety was included in the National List of varieties between 1999 and 2001.
