The Harlequin variety is the result of breeding work by the Scottish institute SCRI. The tubers have a characteristic finger-like shape and retain their texture and shape during thermal processing, which makes them suitable for preparing salads and for consumption either hot or cold.
The plant has moderate resistance to diseases such as late blight, scab, and golden potato cyst nematode. Depending on the weather conditions of the season, it may show susceptibility to late blight.
The variety is listed in the national registry — its seeds are authorized for sale in this country.
