The British variety Sunrise was obtained by crossing "Valor" × "Cultra". It belongs to the mid-early or mid-late type. It forms large bicolored tubers with smooth skin and light yellow flesh. It possesses good resistance to drought and common scab, has a medium dry matter content, and stores well.
The North American variety Sunrise was obtained from the cross "Wauseon" × "B6563-2". It is mid-early. The variety is resistant to golden potato cyst nematode, potato virus X, and net necrosis, and is moderately resistant to common scab. It is susceptible to late blight and leaf roll.
