The variety was identified in the early 20th century on the island of Samsø in Denmark. Its emergence is associated with an accidental discovery by gardener Hans Hansen, who found a promising plant among tubers from unsuccessful breeding experiments.
Belongs to the group of early or mid-early varieties. Historically valued as a productive commercial potato, actively grown in the period from 1930 to 1950. It is a table variety suitable for early harvest.
Regarding disease resistance, it has been established that the variety is susceptible to viral infections. Upon infection with virus A, top necrosis manifests; the variety is also capable of being a carrier of virus X. In modern agronomic literature, it is considered an heirloom variety representing the genetic diversity of the species.
