The Sardinia variety is used in agronomic research, in particular for assessing resistance to the herbicide phenmedipham. The plant exhibits low tolerance to the effects of these preparations under specific lighting conditions. In comparative trials for growing Baby Leaf type spinach, yield indicators were noted to be inferior to some modern varieties.

In scientific literature, the variety is characterized as less susceptible to Fusarium wilt. Information about the originator or the detailed breeding history of the variety is absent in open publications.
