The Kiršinai variety is classified as a traditional local variety. It is tetraploid and intended for use as a forage crop.
The variety is characterized by moderate persistence in stands and medium to low forage productivity, with difficulties observed in obtaining high seed yields. A high content of water-soluble carbohydrates in biomass of up to 111 g/kg is noted.
Scientific interest in the variety is focused on studying isoflavone content levels, resistance to clover rot, and analysis of the fatty acid profile in pollen and bee bread.
