The variety is a tetraploid form of red clover. In scientific research, Peggy is often used as an object for analyzing the composition of phytoestrogens, in particular the concentration of formononetin, as well as in the study of pollination processes.

As with a typical tetraploid variety, Peggy seeds are characterized by an increased size, with a thousand kernel weight typically varying between 2.5–3.5 grams. Detailed morphological characteristics of the plant, such as height or disease resistance, are not described in open data.
