The variety Daeno (synonym Daeno K) is characterized by the presence of a white leaf mark in 55% of plants and red flecking in 14%. In terms of leaf size, the variety belongs to the group of varieties with medium indicators.

The plant is acyanogenic and demonstrates the ability for rapid growth at a temperature of 5°C. The variety shows resistance to stem nematode, but is prone to Sclerotinia, is less resistant to intensive sheep grazing, and has lower yield compared to the variety Huia.

The seed productivity of the variety was estimated to be 20% higher than that of a number of varieties from a similar period. Initially, the crop was intended for use as a forage base in pasture grass mixtures.
