The Piky variety belongs to the spring triticale group. It was bred during breeding programs in Catalonia and was intended for use in agriculture; in particular, it was considered a dual-purpose crop for grain and fodder.

Open publications lack detailed morphological descriptions, information on the maturity group, plant height, as well as indicators of resistance to diseases and lodging. The variety was previously included in the official catalog of the European Union, however, it was removed from it in 2019.
