The variety is classified as soft wheat. In publications, it is mentioned predominantly as winter wheat, however, in a number of registries it may be classified as spring wheat. The origin of the variety is linked in various sources to both Canadian breeding and Germany.
The variety is distinguished by early maturation dates. In agronomic studies, particularly in the Middle Volga region, Campanin is included among samples that are valuable for breeding for lodging resistance and reduction of stem height.
