The Prinqual variety is used in scientific programs for studying biochemical and genetic characteristics of grain storage proteins, such as glutenins and gliadins. In breeding work, this variety has been used as a parent component in crosses with other varieties.

Morphologically, the variety is distinguished by a very high frequency of plants with a curved flag leaf, due to which it is used as a reference when evaluating soft wheat traits. Historical data indicate the variety's susceptibility to yellow rust, which was recorded during an epidemic in France in 1986.
