The variety was obtained as a result of breeding work through selection from the hybrid combination (Cappelli × Grifoni 235) × Capeiti. In the 1970s, it was one of the most common and productive durum wheat varieties in the southern regions of Italy.

The plant possesses adaptability to local soil and climatic conditions and is characterized by improved productivity indicators compared to older varieties of that period. Scientific data indicate the variety's sensitivity to heat stress during seed germination.
