The Arahal variety has become widespread in Spain, particularly in the Andalusia region. In other Spanish regions, it may be represented under the name Waha, and is sometimes referred to as Jabato. The variety was selected within breeding programs for Southern European conditions using international genetic material.
Intended for the production of semolina and pasta. Breeding work focused on increasing resistance to the Hessian fly, leaf rust (Puccinia recondita), and powdery mildew (Erysiphe graminis).
