The variety was obtained as a result of the selection of Duilio, F21 and G76 lines. Biological characteristics of the variety include an average thousand kernel weight of about 55 mg. In laboratory studies, the variety demonstrated high germination under soil waterlogging conditions at the germination stage.

The variety does not possess resistance to stem rust race TTKSK. In scientific literature, "Baio" was widely used as an object for studying protein composition, including gluten fractions, as well as for evaluating the grain quality of durum wheat.

Production and distribution of the variety were oriented towards the needs of the industrial sector, in particular, for the supply of raw materials to the company Barilla S.p.A.
