The Italian variety Dorato was obtained by crossing the lines FZ512 x IDSN-18 168. It is characterized as mid-season, although under a range of conditions it may show signs of late heading. The variety demonstrates resistance to drought and diseases, showing high productivity under irrigation conditions.

The American-bred variety Dorato, developed by Arizona Plant Breeders, Inc., is an independent breeding achievement. It is adapted to the conditions of Arizona, Colorado, and California, and possesses genetic resistance to stripe rust and barley yellow dwarf virus.
