Hamira is a landrace, the name of which comes from an Arabic word meaning "red" due to the color of the grain and the spikes. The plant is characterized by awned spikes with dark or black awns; the grain is elongated and slightly flattened.

The variety possesses high heat tolerance and is suitable for cultivation in arid and semi-arid zones. The grain contains more than 16% protein with a high amino acid content, which allows it to be used for the production of pasta, couscous, bulgur, and traditional flour products.

In modern agronomy, the variety is actively used in breeding as a source of valuable traits, such as resistance to diseases, stress factors, and improved grain quality. Samples of the variety are stored in international genetic resource collections.
