The Magellano variety was included in the testing program of the national durum wheat network. In particular, it was mentioned as a new variety introduction for the Northern Italy regions in the 2012–2013 season.

The variety is intended for use in the food industry, specifically for the production of pasta, which corresponds to the primary purpose of the Triticum durum crop.
