The Vitronero variety was created within breeding programs involving the IRTA and Semillas Batlle institutes, based on developments by CIMMYT. The genetic profile of the variety, including Glu-1 and Glu-3 allele combinations, has been widely studied in the context of determining baking properties and pasta quality.

In studies of resistance to leaf rust, the variety demonstrated a low degree of infection at the seedling stage under laboratory conditions; however, it exhibited a high degree of disease development in field trials. The variety is intended for the food industry, including the production of semolina, couscous, and bulgur.
