The Wells variety is a plant with a height of approximately 84 cm. During its period of active use, the variety demonstrated competitive yield indicators, yet remained susceptible to a number of stem rust races.

The genetic pedigree of the variety includes complex hybrid combinations. Today, the variety is mentioned more often in agronomic and genetic research, for example, when studying plant resistance to nematodes, rather than as a production standard.
