The variety is a sport of the Merry Christmas tulip and belongs to the Single Early tulip group. The main petal color is dark fawn-red (RHS code 60A) with a red margin (47B). The foliage is green with a blue-pink margin (186C).

Flowering of this variety occurs early in the season, traditionally in early April when grown in the open field. The plant is suitable for use as a garden crop for flower beds and rock gardens, as well as for forcing.
