Ljubljanski matovilac belongs to the group of small-leaved varieties. The plant forms dense, elongated leaves of medium size.

The variety is relatively early and possesses exceptional resistance to low temperatures, which allows it to be used for early sowing, including in greenhouses as a substitute for lettuce.
