The plant forms a spreading shrub 0.5–1.0 meters in height with dark red stems. Flowering occurs in June–August; small flowers are collected in dense racemes at the ends of the branches.
The variety prefers a sunny location and well-drained, fertile, moist soils. It possesses moderate winter hardiness and the ability to withstand the effects of wind and salty sea air, while it may be susceptible to Fusarium wilt.
