The plant has an erect or ascending stem, forming the appearance of a small bush. The seeds are small, angular or rounded in shape, with a thousand kernel weight of about 30–50 g, with a dark coat and light interior.

The grain contains about 20% protein and 2% fat, as well as anti-nutritional factors, including canavanine, which gives the seeds a bitter taste. This feature provides the crop with increased resistance to a number of pests, for example, aphids.

The variety is adapted for cultivation on rainfed lands in arid Mediterranean conditions. The crop demonstrates tolerance to cold, is undemanding regarding soil depth, and is used primarily as a grain legume for animal feed.
