The plant is a hybrid derived from a cross between Vriesea ('Sunshine' x sucrei) and Tillandsia mooreana, sometimes classified within the genus xVrieslandsia. The variety reaches a height of 30–40 cm and forms a rosette of dark green leaves 20–25 cm long and 4–5 cm wide. The inflorescence has a spike shape and a bright red color.

The variety is used in scientific publications on plant physiology as a model organism for studying the efficiency of nitrogen uptake by the root system and foliar trichomes. Studies confirm the plant's ability to absorb nutrients through both pathways, with fertilizer application into the leaf rosette-tank effectively influencing biomass accumulation.
