The DMB 5 8 hybrid was created based on the (EP5 × EP2) × (EP3 × EP4) scheme using the genetic diversity of the R86, Maíz Alto de León, and Longfellow lines. The variety was developed as a universal one to provide farmers with high-quality grain and silage mass.
The plant belongs to the FAO 300 maturity group and is distinguished by its ability to produce high-quality silage due to the high sugar content in the stalk. In the 1960s–70s, the variety became widespread, becoming one of the first attempts at breeding specialized forage maize in Europe.
