The line was developed based on the genetic material of the "Gallego" race by specialists at the Misión Biológica de Galicia research station. This line served as source material in breeding programs, particularly in the creation of maize hybrids that became widespread in Galicia in the 1980s–1990s.

In scientific literature, the EC21 line is considered primarily as a genetic resource for studying maize diversity. Detailed agronomic characteristics, such as plant height, exact maturity group, or resistance indicators, are not presented in the published materials.
