The use of verbena in borders is based on the selection of compact bush or trailing forms capable of continuous flowering and intensive pruning.

To create borders, hybrid forms of verbena 20–50 cm in height with a compact habit are selected. Trailing varieties are used to form dense groundcover lines in the foreground. The crop responds well to pruning, which allows for maintaining clear planting boundaries and stimulating additional branching to increase the density of the floral strip.

The success of verbena border plantings depends on placement in open sunny areas, as the plants become leggy and lose their ornamental structure in the shade. The soil must have high drainage, as waterlogging is detrimental to the crop. The plant is characterized by its ability to bloom continuously until frost and its resistance to summer heat and drought, maintaining its ornamental quality in conditions critical for many other species.
