For the formation of borders, low-growing forms are used, primarily the Chrysanthemum multiflora group, which possesses a genetically determined ability to form a compact sphere. Small-flowered Korean hybrids are also used, which form dense decorative cushions and do not require support due to high stem strength.
When setting up such plantings, it is necessary to maintain distance between plants to avoid shading and loss of shape, and to plant chrysanthemums only in sunny areas to prevent shoot elongation. Due to the autumn peak of decorativeness, it is recommended to combine the crop with other plants that maintain the aesthetics of the border in the early stages of the growing season.
Agricultural technology requires strict moisture control, as water stagnation in dense planting conditions provokes root rot. It is important to distinguish between winter-hardy perennial varieties suitable for planting in the ground and heat-loving container forms that require special maintenance conditions.
