Unlike light-loving crops, Astilbe maintains its decorative value under partial or full shade; however, it does not tolerate direct midday sun, which causes leaf and inflorescence scorching. In landscape designs, it is used to create layering: tall Arendsii group cultivars are planted in the background, while compact Japanese and Chinese hybrids are placed in the foreground or borders.
Planting density depends on the habit of the cultivar: from 10–20 cm for low-growing forms to 30–50 cm for tall ones. Due to the active expansion of the root system, plantings require division every 3–4 years. Astilbe is characterized by resistance to diseases and pests, as well as late spring emergence, which allows it to be combined with ephemeroids, whose foliage dies back after flowering and is effectively masked by the foliage of the Astilbe.
