Variety traits
Vaccinium corymbosum L.
The storability of highbush blueberry fruit characterizes the ability of berries to remain marketable when stored under refrigerated conditions. The trait is evaluated by the marketable yield in percent and the duration of storage in days.
In the reference 38 varieties crop Highbush blueberry, where this is mentioned in the description.
Blueberry fruit storability is determined by storing them at a temperature of +4…+5 °C. The main criteria are weight loss, losses due to decay and physiological disorders, as well as the ability of the berries to maintain quality after removal from cold storage at room temperature. The storage duration for a 90% marketable yield varies from 25 days for early-ripening varieties, such as Chanticleer, to 51 days for late varieties, for example Brigitta Blue.
The trait is cultivar-specific and depends on the seasonal meteorological conditions: excessive irrigation or heavy rainfall during the ripening period reduces storability. Technologically, storability is increased by observing harvesting rules aimed at preserving the bloom and organizing rapid cooling of the berries immediately after harvest. Large-fruited and late-ripening highbush blueberry varieties generally show higher storability indicators than small-fruited and early-ripening ones.
