Powdery Mildew of Tuberous Begonia

Begonia x tuberhybrida Voss

A fungal disease of tuberous begonia caused by specific pathogens Erysiphe begoniicola and Oidium begoniae, manifesting as a white coating on the aerial parts of the plant.

In the reference 8 varieties crop Tuberous begonia, where this is mentioned in the description.

The causative agents of the disease in tuberous begonia are microscopic fungi Erysiphe begoniicola and Oidium begoniae, with less frequent associations noted with Golovinomyces orontii and Erysiphe cichoracearum. These pathogens are highly specialized and spread easily within the Begonia genus, not requiring the presence of droplet moisture for spore germination.

Symptoms of infection include the appearance of a white or grayish powdery coating on the upper side of leaves, stems, and buds. As a result of the infection, tissues yellow, deform, and curl; buds often fail to open, which leads to leaf drop, loss of decorative quality, and general weakening of the plant.
