These pathogens are highly specialized and spread easily within the Begonia genus, not requiring the presence of droplet moisture for spore germination.

Symptoms of infection include the appearance of a white or grayish powdery coating on the upper side of leaves, stems, and buds. As a result of the infection, tissues yellow, deform, and curl; buds often fail to open, which leads to leaf drop, loss of decorative quality, and general weakening of the plant.
