Tuberous begonia does not possess a varietal characteristic of freezing suitability, as its tissues cannot withstand exposure to sub-zero temperatures. Any exposure to frost is lethal to the plant and causes irreversible damage to cellular structures.
In agronomic practice, this crop requires mandatory tuber excavation before the onset of cold weather. Storage of planting material is carried out exclusively at positive temperatures in the range from +4 to +10 °C, which excludes the possibility of any form of freezing.
