For the epiphytic Aeschynanthus, maintaining a balance between moisture and root aeration is critical. The crop requires a moderately moist, loose substrate and is extremely sensitive to waterlogging.

Irrigation of Aeschynanthus is carried out after the top 1–3 cm of the substrate has dried out. Complete drying of the root ball is unacceptable, as it triggers yellowing and shedding of leaves, as well as flower drop. Due to the epiphytic nature of the crop, the root system requires access to air; therefore, the use of hydroponics or inert substrates is not feasible for this genus.

During the active growth period, watering is performed regularly, approximately every 5–7 days, depending on evaporation conditions. In the autumn-winter period, the frequency of watering is reduced, allowing the substrate to dry out deeper. It is recommended to use soft, settled water at room temperature, as cold water causes stress to the plant, and it is important to remove excess water from the tray after watering.
