A method of deep irrigation is recommended, with the mandatory requirement of allowing the substrate to dry almost completely between waterings, as errors in the regime lead to yellowing and leaf drop.

Top watering at the base is preferred, while bottom watering via a tray is undesirable as it encourages the development of a surface root system and substrate salinization. The only exception is the cutting rooting period.
