Vriesea irrigation is based on its epiphytic nature and the presence of a leaf rosette used as a moisture reservoir. Agricultural practice requires a combination of funnel irrigation and moderate substrate moistening, taking into account the plant's seasonality and developmental stages.

During the active growth period, water is poured into the central leaf rosette, maintaining a level of about 2–3 cm, and the substrate is additionally moderately moistened. To maintain hygiene, the water in the funnel must be refreshed every 1–2 weeks to prevent stagnation and rot.

After the peduncle appears, irrigation into the rosette should be stopped. During the winter period or at low temperatures, funnel irrigation should be reduced or eliminated to protect the leaf neck from rot. The crop's root system is extremely sensitive to excess moisture, so the soil ball should only be kept slightly damp.

Vriesea requires soft, warm, and lime-free water; rainwater or distilled water is ideal. Additional spraying is recommended, as the plant absorbs some moisture through its leaves; however, excessive water accumulation on the leaf surface should be avoided.
