Cultivation
Lilium L.
Growing lilies in open ground requires strict adherence to drainage regimes and planting depth, determined by the presence of stem roots.
In the reference 234 varieties crop Lily, where this is mentioned in the description.
Plots for lilies must have excellent water permeability to prevent fungal diseases of the bulbs. Optimal soil acidity levels depend on the variety group: Asiatic and Longiflorum hybrids prefer a pH of 6.0–7.0, whereas Oriental hybrids require a more acidic environment in the range of 5.5–6.5.
An important technological feature is the planting depth, which should be equal to three times the diameter of the bulb. This ensures the development of stem roots, which are critical for plant nutrition and the formation of flower buds. The crop is sensitive to recurrent spring frosts, which can damage generative organs during the active shoot growth phase.
