Shield budding during the sap flow period in August serves as the primary method for propagating quince varieties in nurseries, while scion grafting is employed when the diameters of the rootstock and scion match. Quince exhibits a specific unidirectional incompatibility with pear: while quince is widely used as a rootstock for pear, the reverse combination is virtually non-viable.

In cases of poor compatibility between pear varieties and quince rootstocks, double grafting is used with an intermediate interstock 8–12 cm in length, which increases the survival rate to 80%. For industrial horticulture, clonal rootstocks are selected (Quince A, Quince C, BA-29) that provide tree dwarfing; however, their use is limited to southern regions due to low winter hardiness.
