The productivity of onions is measured by yield indicators in tons per hectare, the structure of the yield, including the average weight of a marketable bulb, and the percentage of standard produce output. Under production conditions in Russia, the average productivity level is 20–30 t/ha, whereas modern intensive hybrids, when irrigation and nutrition technologies are observed, are capable of yielding from 40 to 140 t/ha.

This trait is complex and depends on the genetic potential of the variety, the cultivation method (annual crop from seeds or biennial from sets), plant density, and the quality of the planting material. In addition to total harvest, productivity includes the variety's ability to maintain marketable qualities, such as shape, size, and freedom from disease during the commercialization process.
